A Slow Day at Eftalou: Hot Springs, Quiet Beaches & Unexpected Moments

    ByStephanie Banks 28 October 202218 November 2025

My walk from Molyvos to the hot springs at Eftalou turned into one of those simple, memorable travel days. Autumn crocuses, empty roads, a sleeping hammam cat, boiling hot waters and the Turkish mainland shimmering just across the strait. A gentle, restorative day that reminded me why slow travel is often the best kind.

Molyvos – Kastro, Village and Beach

    ByStephanie Banks 27 October 202210 January 2023

I am woken this morning with the sun streaming in through the lightweight curtains. The temperature had definitely dropped last night and I had to bring out the extra blanket. Last night wasn’t the best nights sleep due to the sprung mattress. Honestly once you’ve ‘gone memory foam’ nothing else will ever compare! A comfortable…

    Molyvos! And Relax. (She says!)

    ByStephanie Banks 26 October 20227 January 2023

Today I am leaving Mytiline and heading off to Molyvos for 7 days. This morning I go down to the breakfast room for one last time, appreciating that I probably won’t get a breakfast offer like this again for the rest of my trip. I’m delighted to see Chara back at the hotel today. Her…

A Drunken Night at Fat Jimmy’s and a Sunday Hangover Walk

    ByStephanie Banks 25 October 20225 January 2023

So off to Fat Jimmy’s I go. A nice traditional taverna down by the marina just a short walk from Hotel Lesvion. No matter how many years I’ve been travelling to Greece I’ve never got into the swing of eating late. I arrive at Fat Jimmy’s taverna shortly after 7pm. It’s already dark, it’s a…

Exploring Mytiline – Archaeological Museum and Kastro

    ByStephanie Banks 24 October 20222 January 2023

After another stupendous breakfast at Hotel Lesvion, I turn my attention to more practical things. I’m conscious that I have just 4 nights booked here in Mytiline and have no plans beyond this, not even a flight home. Although I was just getting into the swing of the nomadic life style I appreciate that I…

A Day in Agiasos: Exploring Lesvos by Bus, Tradition, and Warm Village Encounters

    ByStephanie Banks 23 October 202218 November 2025

Agiasos turned out to be one of the loveliest surprises of my time on Lesvos. From vine-covered lanes and traditional bakeries to quirky museums, mountain air and unexpected encounters with locals, this little village offered everything I love about travel. A day full of warmth, charm, and small moments that stay with you long after the bus ride home.

Arrival on Lesvos and an Impromptu Trip to Kalloni and Skala Kalloni

    ByStephanie Banks 22 October 202230 October 2022

The three hour journey to Lesvos was very pleasant – despite being at an ungodly hour. The morning air was quite chilly so I sat in the comfort of the lounge. I tried to get my Seasmiles membership card printed from the onboard terminal but it wasn’t having any of it. Anyway the early morning…

Too short a time in Lesvos! Guest Blog by Kathy Vichta

    ByStephanie Banks 22 August 202017 February 2022

The food scene in Mytilene is great! It’s a student town and there are bars, ouzeries and restaurants all through the little streets behind the main drag. Some of the most recommended are already closed for the season but we manage to eat (and drink) really well and quite cheaply both nights (an ouzerie in…
